Founded in 1928 by Alfredo Guimarães, it houses the collections of the extinct Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Oliveira and other churches and convents in the Guimarães region. It is located in the heart of the Historic Centre, in the exact place where, in the tenth century, Countess Mumadona installed a monastery, around which the Guimarães village emerged.

In the heart of the historic center, Largo da Oliveira is a popular meeting place and is home to the Padrão do Salado, a Gothic monument commemorating the Battle of Salado.

This modern museum features exhibits that tell the story of Guimarães and the lives of the people who live and work there.

This square is one of the busiest spots in the historic center, full of cafes and restaurants. The perfect spot to sit back and watch the world go by.

Located in Briteiros, a little outside of Guimarães, the museum explores the ancient Castro culture, which prevailed in the region before the arrival of the Romans.

Probably the first cable car to start operating in Portugal, on March 11, 1995, it receives visits from all origins, both Portuguese and foreigners, throughout the year. It transports between the city of Guimarães and the Penha Mountain and provides a trip of 1,700 meters, overcoming an altitude of 400 meters in just a few minutes, where an extraordinary place of worship is located throughout the North of the country – the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Penha – with this space of restaurants, hotel, bars, mini-golf, cyclo-cross circuits, pedestrian routes and a magnificent mountain campsite that enrapture the thousands of annual visitors.
